八女福島仏壇

福岡県八女市で生産される仏壇。九州最大の仏壇産地で、独特の「福島仏壇」スタイルは黒漆塗りの外観と金箔・金具の華やかな内装が特徴。江戸時代中期から仏壇産業が発展し、現在も宮大工・塗師・蒔絵師・金具師・彫刻師など多くの職人が分業で制作する産地体制を維持している。筑後地方の豊富な木材と農村仏教文化が産業の基盤をなし、金仏壇の様式美と職人技が一体となった九州を代表する仏壇工芸の産地として広く知られる。

Yame Fukushima Butsudan are Buddhist altars produced in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The largest altar production area in Kyushu, the distinctive 'Fukushima butsudan' style features a black lacquered exterior with brilliant gold leaf and metalwork on the interior. The altar industry developed from the mid-Edo period, and today the production system maintains multiple craftspeople specializing in different roles including shrine carpenters, lacquer painters, maki-e artists, metalwork artisans, and carvers. Built upon the abundant timber of the Chikugo region and rural Buddhist culture, this area is widely recognized as a leading Kyushu altar craft production center where the aesthetic refinement of gold altars and craftsmen's skills are unified.
