奈良県吉野郡吉野町で生産される手漉き和紙。奈良時代から続く由緒ある産地で、吉野山系の清流・吉野川の水と良質な楮を使って漉かれる。薄くて透明感があり強度も高い「吉野薄美濃」は文化財修復・版画・書道用紙として国内外で重宝されてきた。世界遺産・吉野山の麓で受け継がれる古都奈良の伝統和紙として、現代も少数の職人が手漉きの技を継承し続けている。
Yoshino Washi is handmade Japanese paper produced in Yoshino Town, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture. A prestigious production area dating to the Nara period, it is made using the clear waters of the Yoshino River from the Yoshino mountain range and high-quality kozo. The thin, translucent yet strong 'Yoshino usumino' has long been prized domestically and internationally for cultural property restoration, printmaking, and calligraphy paper. As the traditional paper of ancient Nara, passed down at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Yoshino-san, a small number of craftspeople continue to inherit the hand-papermaking technique today.
