愛知県名古屋市を中心に染められる黒紋付（正礼装着物）の染色工芸。江戸時代初期、尾張藩の藩士が旗印や幟の染色を担ったことに始まり、江戸末期には藩士・庶民の黒紋付染が広まった。深みある漆黒の黒染め技術は「名古屋黒」として知られ、家紋を白く染め抜く「紋入れ」技法とあわせて冠婚葬祭の正礼装として全国に出荷されている。
Nagoya kuro monfuki is the dyeing of black monfuki (formal black kimono for ceremonial occasions) performed in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, developed from the late Edo period through the Meiji era. The deep jet-black dyeing technique using chemical dyes is known as 'Nagoya black,' and its uniform, deep jet-black color is shipped nationwide as formal attire for weddings and funerals. The 'mon-ire' technique of dyeing family crests white requires advanced craftsmanship, making it an indispensable representative craft of Nagoya's dyeing industry for both celebratory and mourning formal wear. Specialized dyeing workshops in Nagoya City continue to preserve traditional techniques today.
