津軽こぎん刺し

青森県津軽地方に伝わる刺し子の一種。江戸時代から農村女性が麻布に白い木綿糸でびっしりと刺していく独特の刺繍技法で、防寒・補強の実用性と幾何学的な美しさを兼ね備える。「こぎん」の語源は「小巾（こはば）」で、もとは農作業着（こぎん着）の補強として発展した。水玉・十字・斜め格子などの幾何学文様が特徴で、雪深い津軽の長い冬の手仕事として女性たちが受け継いできた東北を代表する刺し子工芸。

Tsugaru Kogin Zashi is a type of sashiko embroidery from the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture. Since the Edo period, rural women have used a distinctive embroidery technique of closely stitching white cotton thread onto linen cloth, combining the practicality of cold protection and reinforcement with geometric beauty. The word 'kogin' derives from 'kohaba' (small width), originally developing as reinforcement for farm work clothing (kogin clothing). Characterized by geometric patterns such as polka dots, crosses, and diagonal lattice, it has been passed down by women as the winter handiwork of snowy Tsugaru, representing Tohoku's sashiko craft tradition.
