千葉県館山市・南房総市を中心に生産される竹製丸型うちわ。明治時代中頃から本格的な生産が始まり、房州（南房総）産の女竹（めだけ）を骨に使う点が特徴。1本の竹を丸い柄のまま使い、その先端部分を細く割いて骨を作る「丸柄（まるえ）」製法が独特で、継ぎ目のない一体構造が強度と美しさを兼ね備える。涼感のある丸みを帯びた形と細かい骨格の透け感が夏の風物詩として珍重されている。
Boshu Uchiwa are round bamboo fans produced mainly in Tateyama City and Minami Boso City, Chiba Prefecture. Full-scale production began around the mid-Meiji period, distinguished by the use of locally-sourced female bamboo (medake) from Boshu (South Boso) for the ribs. The unique 'marugara' (round handle) technique uses a single bamboo stalk with the round handle intact, finely splitting the tip portion to create ribs—a seamless one-piece construction combining strength and beauty. Prized as a summer seasonal item for its cooling rounded form and the delicate translucency of fine ribs.
