播州そろばん

兵庫県小野市で生産されるそろばん。安土桃山時代に豊臣秀吉の三木城攻略の折、大津に逃れた住民がそろばんの技法を習得して帰郷し、製造を始めたのが起源とされる。雲州そろばん（島根）と並ぶ国内二大そろばん産地の一つで、現代でも国産そろばんの大半を生産している。珠をひとつひとつ手作業で仕上げる精密な工程が特徴で、近年はそろばん学習の再評価とともに需要も回復しつつある。

Banshu Soroban are abacuses produced in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture. One of Japan's two major abacus production areas alongside Unshu Soroban (Shimane Prefecture), it remains a leading production center producing the majority of domestically made abacuses today. Production began centered in Ono City from the mid-Edo period, characterized by the precise process of individually hand-finishing each one-unit and five-unit bead and a commitment to ease of use. In recent years, demand has recovered along with a reassessment of abacus learning, and it is attracting attention as a traditional craft supporting Japan's culture of mental arithmetic.
