工芸品について

三重県鈴鹿市白子地区で生産される染め型紙。平安時代頃から始まったとされ、和紙を柿渋で固めた型紙に細かな文様を彫刻したもの。江戸小紋・加賀友禅・京小紋などの型染めに欠かせない道具として、全国の染め職人に供給されてきた。「突き彫り」「錐彫り」「道具彫り」「縞彫り」の4種類の彫り技法がある。現在、鈴鹿市が型紙産地として国内ほぼ唯一の産地。

Ise Katagami are dye stencils produced in the Shiroko district of Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture. Said to have started in the Heian period, they are made from Japanese paper stiffened with persimmon tannin, with intricate patterns carved into them. Supplied to dye craftsmen nationwide as essential tools for stencil dyeing including Edo Komon, Kaga Yuzen, and Kyo Komon. Four carving techniques exist: tsukinori, kirinori, dogununori, and shimanori. Suzuka City is now almost the only domestic production area.
