工芸品について
三重県熊野市で産出・加工される那智黒石を使った工芸品。熊野の那智黒石は粘板岩の一種で、きめが細かく研磨すると漆黒の光沢が生まれることが特徴。室町時代から碁石・硯・置物などに加工されてきた歴史を持ち、特に日本の碁石の大部分は那智黒石から作られてきた。熊野三山参詣との結びつきから全国に知られ、囲碁文化を支えてきた重要な石材産地として今日まで受け継がれている。
Nachiguro Ishi Kogeihin are craft objects produced using nachiguro stone quarried and processed in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture. Nachiguro stone from Kumano is a type of slate (phylite), characterized by its fine grain that produces a jet-black luster when polished. It has a history of being processed into go pieces, inkstones, and figurines since the Muromachi period, and most of Japan's go pieces have traditionally been made from nachiguro stone. Known throughout Japan through its connection with the pilgrimage to the Kumano Sanzan shrines, it continues to be passed down today as an important stone material production area supporting go culture.
