仙台箪笥

宮城県仙台市で生産される伝統家具。江戸時代末期以降に仙台藩の地場産業として成長し、欅の木地に木目が浮かび上がる木地呂（きじろ）塗りと豪華な鉄製の錺金具（把手・蝶番・飾り金具）を組み合わせた重厚な箪笥が特徴。精巧に打ち出された鉄金具の装飾と欅の木目の対比が独自の重厚美を生む、東北を代表する伝統家具。

Sendai Tansu are traditional chests of drawers produced in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Developed from the mid-Edo period against the backdrop of Sendai Castle's samurai culture, characterized by heavy and dignified chests combining high-quality zelkova wood with iron decorative metal fittings (handles, hinges, decorative hardware). The combination of 'iron fittings and zelkova wood' is synonymous with Sendai Tansu, with the contrast between elaborately forged iron fittings and the grain of the zelkova creating a unique beauty. Still produced today by Sendai craftsmen protecting traditional techniques, a representative traditional furniture piece of Tohoku.
