工芸品について

東京都の下町（台東区・墨田区・江東区等）で生産される木工家具・建具・調度品。釘や金具を使わず、木材の「組み手（くみて）」だけで構造を支える高度な木工技術が特徴。江戸時代初期から続く伝統で、欅（けやき）・桐・桜など銘木を使った緻密な木組みが美しい。現在も職人が手作りで桐箪笥・茶棚・書院棚などを制作している。

Edo Sashimono is wooden furniture, fittings, and furnishings produced in the shitamachi districts of Tokyo (Taito, Sumida, Koto wards, etc.). Characterized by advanced woodworking techniques that support structure using only wood 'kumi-te' (joints) without nails or metal fittings. A tradition from the early Edo period, the intricate wood joinery using fine woods like keyaki, paulownia, and cherry is beautiful. Craftsmen still hand-produce Kiri tansu (paulownia chests), tea shelves, and study shelves.
