埼玉県春日部市で生産される桐材の箪笥。江戸時代初期、日光東照宮の造営に集まった職人たちが日光街道の宿場町・春日部に住み着き、周辺で採れる桐を使った指物や小物を作り始めたのが起源とされる。江戸中頃には産地としての形が整い、精緻な仕口加工と繊細な表面仕上げが特徴。現在も「東の春日部、西の加茂」と並び称される桐箪笥の名産地。
Kasukabe kiri tansu is a paulownia wood chest of drawers produced in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture. Chest production developed against the background of active paulownia cultivation in the Kasukabe (former Kasu-kabe) area from the early Edo period. Influenced by the craftsman culture of Edo as a nearby production center, it features precise joinery and delicate surface finishing. Today it remains one of the two major production centers, called "Kasukabe of the East, Kamo of the West."
