工芸品について
東京都で生産される型染め浴衣地。江戸中期から発展した染色技法で、長い板（長板）に生地を張り、型紙と防染糊を使って両面を藍染めする。生地の表裏両面に全く同じ柄が染まる（両面染め）ことが大きな特徴で、透けても模様が美しい夏の浴衣地として珍重される。人間国宝の松原定吉が技術を継承し、現在も少数の職人が制作を続けている。
Nagaita Chukata is stencil-dyed yukata fabric produced in Tokyo. A dyeing technique developed in the mid-Edo period, fabric is stretched on long boards (nagaita) and both sides are indigo-dyed using stencils and resist paste. The defining feature is that the exact same pattern dyes on both sides of the fabric (ryomen-zome), making it treasured as summer yukata fabric with beautiful patterns even when translucent. Living National Treasure Matsubara Sadakichi preserved the technique, with a small number of craftspeople continuing production.
