甲州水晶貴石細工

工芸品について

山梨県甲府市を中心とした水晶・貴石加工工芸。約千年前、御嶽昇仙峡の奥地で水晶の原石が発見されたことが起源とされ、江戸時代中期には神官が京都の玉造りに原石を持参して加工させるようになった。その後、江戸時代後期に甲府で研磨技術が確立されると産地として本格的に発展し、明治以降は輸入宝石も扱うジュエリー産業へ拡大。現在も甲府市は国内ジュエリー生産トップシェアを誇る宝石工芸の集積地として知られる。

Koshu Crystal Gemstone Work is a crystal and gemstone crafting art centered in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Good-quality crystals have been produced in Koshu (Yamanashi) since ancient times, said to have originated when Buddhist monks began making crystal prayer beads around the Kamakura period. During the Edo period, Kofu's crystal craftspeople became known nationwide, and from the Meiji era it developed into a jewelry industry also handling imported gemstones. Today, Kofu City still holds the top domestic share in jewelry production, with concentrated techniques for polishing, carving, and decorating precious stones.
