About Kanazawa Ningyo (Kanazawa Doll)

Kanazawa Ningyo are traditional dolls produced in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. A craft carried by doll makers under the patronage of the Kaga Domain, they feature refined facial features and luxurious costumes concentrating Kanazawa's craft traditions—Kaga Yuzen dyeing, gold leaf, maki-e. Encompassing diverse types including hina dolls, samurai dolls, and Noh dolls, high technical standards were cultivated under the cultural patronage of the Kaga Domain.
