About Fushimi Ningyo (Fushimi Clay Doll)
Fushimi Ningyo are unglazed clay dolls born at the entrance to Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. Made from the early Edo period as souvenirs for Inari shrine visitors, they feature rustic expressions and vivid colors depicting auspicious subjects such as foxes, treasure ships, guardian dogs, and the Seven Lucky Gods. Regarded as one of the origins of Japan's folk clay dolls, said to have influenced regional clay doll traditions including Hakata and Miharu dolls.
