About Wajima Chinkin Lacquerware
Wajima Chinkin is a lacquerware decoration technique developed in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The technique involves carving the surface of hardened lacquerware with sharp tools, then filling the carved grooves with gold powder or gold leaf. Capable of expressing delicate patterns through fine line drawing, it is internationally recognized as a representative decoration technique of Wajima lacquerware.
