About Echizen Lacquerware

Echizen lacquerware is produced in the Kawada district of Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture. With a history stretching back approximately 1,500 years, its most notable feature is its exceptionally durable base coat. Holding over 80% of the commercial lacquerware market, it produces tableware for restaurants, hotels, and inns. Modern designs have been gaining attention in recent years.
