About Aizu Lacquerware
Aizu lacquerware is produced in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture. Starting in 1590 when Gamo Ujisato invited lacquer craftsmen from Omi (Shiga), it has 400 years of history as Tohoku's premier lacquerware producing area. Featuring sturdy bases and vivid colored lacquer and maki-e, it produces everything from everyday tableware to high-end crafts.
