About Yamanaka Lacquerware

Yamanaka lacquerware is produced in the Yamanaka-Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Known as Japan's premier wood-turning production area, its lathe-turning technique is exceptional. Thinly turned wood with beautiful curves is finished using various techniques including Wajima-style, maki-e, and chinkin. Renowned as a production area for tea ceremony tools like bowls and tea cup saucers.
