About Kanazawa Lacquerware
Kanazawa lacquerware is produced in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It developed when the Maeda clan of Kaga, lords of one million koku, invited master craftsmen from Kyoto to promote lacquer arts. Famous for its intricate "Kaga maki-e," it is known domestically and internationally as a premium lacquerware combining lavish decoration using gold, silver, and mother-of-pearl with the refined elegance characteristic of Kaga culture.
