About Hidehira Lacquerware
Hidehira lacquerware is produced in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture. Its origins lie in the late Heian period, when Fujiwara no Hidehira, third head of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, had lacquerware produced as part of Hiraizumi's golden culture. Characterized by the abundant use of gold leaf in diamond patterns (Hidehira-mon) combined with vibrant vermillion and black lacquer, it is a dignified lacquerware tradition that conveys Hiraizumi's golden heritage.
