About Bungo Takada Metal Files

Bungo Takada metal files are metal files (yasuri) produced in Bungo Takada City, Oita Prefecture. From the late Edo period through the Meiji era, file manufacturing utilizing blacksmithing techniques developed as a local industry. An indispensable tool for various craftspeople in woodworking, metalworking, and leatherworking, it is characterized by the precise hand-cutting (mekiri) technique done manually. Made by craftspeople cutting each tooth by hand using traditional methods, these files have superior cutting performance not found in machine-made products.
