About Tsubame Hammered Copperware
Tsubame Hammered Copperware is forged metal crafts from Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture. Said to have started around 1780, the 'tsuiki' (hammering) technique of shaping copper sheets by hammering is its defining feature. Continuous hammering compresses the copper, creating extremely thin yet highly durable vessels. While few craftsmen remain due to the high skill required, the beauty and functionality are highly regarded domestically and internationally.
