About Takaoka Copperware
Takaoka copperware is cast metal crafts from Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. Starting in 1611 when Maeda Toshiaga, second lord of the Kaga Domain, invited seven casters. It accounts for approximately 90% of Japan's copper and bronze production—from temple bells and Buddhist statues to vases and interior goods. Used in restoring Kamakura's Great Buddha and Nara's Todaiji Temple; the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's large clock is also Takaoka-made.
