About Osaka Karaki Sashimono

Osaka karaki sashimono is wooden crafts using fine imported woods (karaki) produced in Osaka. From the early Edo period, as Osaka developed as a commercial city, high-quality wooden crafts were produced using imported karaki such as rosewood (shitan), ebony (kitan), and padauk (karin) from China and Southeast Asia. The greatest feature is the combination of precise joinery techniques without nails and the beautiful grain and colors of karaki.
