About Edo Kiriko
Edo Kiriko is a cut glass craft produced mainly in Sumida Ward and Koto Ward, Tokyo. Said to have originated around 1834 when Edo glassware dealer Kagaya Kyubei engraved glass surfaces with corundum. Characterized by cutting traditional patterns such as yurai (bamboo fence), nanako (fish roe), and hexagonal basket weave using diamond wheels and whetstones, the multi-angle refraction of light creates a unique brilliance. Highly popular domestically and internationally as a representative Tokyo traditional craft, it is enjoyed in diverse products including sake vessels, glasses, and accessories.
