About Kishu Lacquerware
Kishu lacquerware is produced in the Kuroe area of Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture. Originating around the Muromachi period, it developed in Kishu, which was rich in both timber and lacquer. Today, through efficient production systems, it supplies large quantities of affordable everyday lacquerware, holding a significant share of the national lacquerware market. Its product range spans from maki-e and chinkin decorated pieces to everyday bowls.
