About Yamagata Cast Metal

Yamagata cast metal is metal craft products from Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. Said to have originated in the Heian period when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi brought casters from Kyoto during his expedition to Oshu. Producing diverse items from Buddhist implements and tea ceremony tools to everyday items and modern interior goods. Known alongside Nambu ironware as one of Japan's representative casting areas.
