Gujo tsumugi is a hand-woven silk tsumugi produced in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture (formerly Gujo-Hachiman), a textile nurtured by the rich nature of Gujo at the headwaters of the clear-flowing Nagara River. Characterized by a rustic texture using hand-spun thread and soft coloring from plant dyeing, it is deeply connected to the regional culture as a traditional craft of Gujo, famous as the home of Gujo Odori dance. Despite being a small-scale handcraft rooted in a mountain basin, the beauty of its delicate handiwork is highly regarded by kimono enthusiasts nationwide. Workshops in Gujo City continue to handcraft each item carefully, from thread to fabric.
