二風谷イタ

工芸品について

北海道日高地方・平取町二風谷のアイヌ民族に代々伝わる木彫りの盆（イタ）工芸品。沙流川流域では百年以上前から受け継がれてきた技であり、19世紀半ばには盆が贈り物として献上された記録も残る。ハルニレ・ミズキなどの木材に渦巻き（モレウ）や植物文などアイヌ独自の文様を彫刻し、自然観・世界観を表現。1984年に国の伝統的工芸品に指定され、現在も工芸家が技を継承している。

Nibutani Ita are wood-carved trays (ita) of the Ainu people of Nibutani, Biratori Town, Hidaka region, Hokkaido, passed down through generations. In the Ainu language, 'ita' means a tray or serving board. Carved from woods such as Japanese elm and dogwood using unique Ainu patterns (spirals, morewu, plant motifs). Designated as a national traditional craft in 1984, it was the first METI-designated craft from Nibutani. These trays embody the Ainu worldview and reverence for nature through carved patterns, with Nibutani craftspeople continuing to inherit and develop the tradition today.
