読谷山花織

工芸品について

15世紀には既に生産されていたと考えられる沖縄県読谷村の浮き織り絹・綿織物。当時は琉球王朝のための御用布とされ、一般の人々が着用できないほど格調の高い織物であった。経糸を浮かせて立体的な花模様を表す「花織（はなおり）」技法が特徴で、朝鮮やジャワとの交流も文様に影響している。沖縄戦で途絶えた技術を昭和期に復元し、現在も読谷村で継承されている。

Yomitan-son hanaoui is a float-woven silk and cotton textile produced in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture. A traditional textile dating to the Ryukyu Kingdom era, it is characterized by the 'hanaoui' (flower weaving) technique of floating warp threads to create geometric flower patterns. Using brightly colored threads of red, yellow, and green, it weaves diamond and star-shaped geometric patterns inspired by Okinawan nature. The technique, lost during the Battle of Okinawa, was restored during the Showa era and continues to be passed down in Yomitan Village today.
