佐賀県佐賀市で生産される独特の錦織物。金箔や銀箔を細く切ったものを経糸に用い、絹糸を緯糸に使って織り上げる特殊な技法が特徴。鍋島藩の工芸として江戸時代中期に発展し、幕府や諸大名への献上品となった。輝くような金銀の光沢と精緻な紋様が特徴で、帯・袋物・アクセサリーに使われる。現在も佐賀市の工房が伝統技法を守り続けている。
Saga nishiki is a distinctive brocade textile produced in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. It is characterized by a special technique of weaving with finely cut gold and silver foil as the warp threads and silk as the weft. Developed as a craft of the Nabeshima domain during the mid-Edo period, it became an offering to the Shogunate and various daimyo. Characterized by gleaming gold and silver luster and intricate patterns, it is used for obi, pouches, and accessories. Studios in Saga City continue to preserve the traditional technique today.
