静岡県西部の遠州地方（浜松・掛川周辺）で生産される木綿の縞織物。江戸時代から続く遠州の綿作文化が生んだ縦縞・格子縞の実用的な平織り木綿。三河木綿と並ぶ東海地方の木綿産地として発展し、農村の自家織りから産地織物へと成長した。素朴で丈夫な風合いが特徴で、現在も地域の伝統織物として浜松周辺の工房が生産を続けている。
Enshu menputsui is a cotton striped textile produced in the Enshu region (around Hamamatsu and Kakegawa) in western Shizuoka Prefecture. A practical plain-woven cotton with vertical and plaid stripes, born from the cotton cultivation culture of Enshu that dates to the Edo period. Developed as a cotton production area of the Tokai region alongside Mikawa cotton, it grew from village home weaving to regional textile production. Characterized by a rustic and durable texture, workshops around Hamamatsu continue producing it as a regional traditional textile today.
