足利織物

工芸品について

栃木県足利市で生産される絹・化繊織物。関東最古の織物産地として平安時代から続く歴史を持ち、鎌倉時代には「足利絹」として全国に知られた。江戸時代には銘仙・帯地・洋装地など幅広い織物を生産し、明治以降は近代化によって大量生産体制を整えた。結城紬とともに関東を代表する絹織物産地として国の伝統的工芸品に指定され、現在も帯地・洋装素材・インテリア織物を生産している。

Ashikaga ori is a silk and synthetic fiber textile produced in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. As the oldest textile production area in the Kanto region, it has a history dating to the Heian period, and during the Kamakura period it became nationally known as 'Ashikaga silk.' During the Edo period it produced a wide range of textiles including meisen, obi fabric, and Western-style fabric, and after the Meiji era it established mass production through modernization. Designated as a nationally recognized traditional craft alongside Yuki tsumugi as a representative Kanto silk textile production area, it continues to produce obi fabric, Western-style materials, and interior textiles today.
