About Seto Ware
Seto ware is ceramics produced in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture—one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns dating to the late Heian period. By incorporating porcelain techniques in the Edo period and producing染付磁器 (sometsuke porcelain), it became so widespread that 'setomono' became a generic word for ceramics. It remains one of Japan's leading ceramic production areas.
