About Kawatsura Lacquerware
Kawatsura lacquerware is produced in the Kawatsura area of Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture. Its origins trace to the Kamakura period, when retainers of the Onodera clan used lacquer for repairing bows and armor. Known for its vibrant vermillion and black colors and robust construction, it is now a noted producer of everyday lacquerware including bowls, trays, and jubako boxes.
