About Miyajima Zaiku
Miyajima zaiku is wooden crafts produced on Miyajima Island (Itsukushima) in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Developing from the mid-Edo period as souvenirs for pilgrims visiting Itsukushima Shrine, representative products include rice paddles, tea ceremony utensils, and wood mosaic inlay (mokuzogan). In particular, "Miyajima rice paddles" are famous and widely known as a symbol of peace. A wooden craft art nurtured on a UNESCO World Heritage island.
