About Kaga-Yuzen Dyeing
Kaga-Yuzen is dyeing art produced in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Unlike Kyo-Yuzen, it has unique characteristics: 'soto-bokashi' (gradation from outside to inside), 'mushikui-ha' (realistic depiction of insect-eaten leaves), and realistic floral and plant motifs. Based on 'Kaga Gosai' (five colors: indigo, crimson, ochre, grass green, and ancient purple) with little gold leaf decoration, giving it a quiet dignity. Kaga-Yuzen artists still create by hand in individual studios.
