About Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori Tie-Dye
Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori is tie-dye produced in the Arimatsu and Narumi districts of Midori Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Said to have started in 1608 by residents of Narumi-juku on the Tokaido highway, developing as a souvenir for travelers. Featuring over 100 shibori (tie-dye) techniques including Miura-shibori, Kanoko-shibori, and Arashi-shibori, it is the world's largest shibori production area. Products range from yukata and tenugui to modern fashion goods.
