About Kyo-Yuzen Dyeing
Kyo-Yuzen is a dyeing art from Kyoto, originating from techniques devised by fan painter Miyazaki Yuzen-sai during the Genroku era (1688-1704). Using resist paste (itome-nori) and painting with brushes, it creates delicate pictorial patterns. Beginning with nobility and samurai demand, today both hand-drawn and stencil yuzen feature elegant, realistic depictions of flowers, birds, and landscapes.
