About Kagawa Lacquerware
Kagawa lacquerware is produced mainly in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. Its origins trace to the early Edo period, when the lord of Takamatsu domain, Matsudaira Yorishige, invited maki-e artists from Kyoto. It is known as a treasure trove of diverse decorative techniques, encompassing five methods: choushitsu (carved lacquer), kinma, zousei, Goto-nuri, and Sanuki-bori.
