About Sanuki Kagari Temari
Sanuki Kagari Temari are decorative embroidered balls made in Takamatsu City (formerly Sanuki Province), Kagawa Prefecture. Made by forming cotton into a round core and then meticulously wrapping colorful silk and cotton threads in intricate geometric patterns. Developed in the castle town of the Takamatsu Domain during the Edo period as New Year's good luck charms and toys for girls, production spread among craftspeople and ordinary households. Today they are enjoyed as New Year decorations, interior accessories, and gifts, with temari classes and hands-on experiences actively held throughout the region.
