About Kyo Kanoko Shibori
Kyo kanoko shibori is the pinnacle of tie-dyeing produced in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Fabric is finely pinched with needles and tightly tied with silk thread to resist dye; when the threads are removed after dyeing, the white dots from the ties resemble the spots on a deer, hence 'kanoko' (fawn). A single furisode may have hundreds of thousands of tied spots, requiring extremely advanced hand skills. Used in high-end Japanese clothing such as furisode, obi-age, and haori, it represents Kyoto's tie-dyeing culture.
