About Raku Ware
Raku ware is a ceramic tradition born in Kyoto for the tea ceremony. In the late 16th century, tile maker Chojiro founded it under the guidance of tea master Sen no Rikyu. Characterized by the "hand-building" technique without a wheel, it is fired at low temperatures, resulting in lightweight vessels that embody the wabi aesthetic cherished by tea practitioners. The tradition has been preserved through generations of the Raku family.
