About Mashiko Ware
Mashiko ware is pottery produced in Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture. Started in 1853 by Otsuka Keisaburo after training in Kasama. The Living National Treasure Hamada Shoji established his base here, gaining worldwide fame through the Folk Craft Movement. Today, over 250 kilns and shops line the streets, attracting over 600,000 visitors to its bi-annual pottery markets.
