About Tokyo Tegaki Yuzen

Tokyo tegaki yuzen is hand-painted yuzen dyeing produced in Tokyo. Kyo and Kaga techniques spread to Tokyo during the Meiji era, where Tokyo craftspeople developed them into their own style. A defining feature especially emphasized in Tokyo yuzen is 'integrated production,' where a single craftsperson handles all dyeing processes from resist paste application, color filling, steaming, and washing. It is characterized by a clean and refined design inheriting the Edo sense of 'iki' (refined elegance).
