About Shogawa Hikimono Kiji
Shogawa hikimono kiji is lathe-turned wooden ware produced in the Shogawa River basin area of Tonami City and Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. From the late Edo period, many kijishi (wood turners) gathered, utilizing the Shogawa river as a lumber collection point for the Kaga Domain, forming a production center. Both unfinished natural wood and lacquered versions are produced, creating everyday items such as bowls, trays, and saucers that showcase the beauty of wood grain.
