About Mikawa Momen
Mikawa momen is a cotton textile produced in the Mikawa region of Aichi Prefecture (around Okazaki and Toyota), a thick and durable plain-woven cotton that circulated nationwide as 'Sanzu momen' from the Edo period. A practical cotton widely used for sashiko embroidery and farming work clothes, its simple stripe and plaid designs embody the aesthetic sensibility of Mikawa. Developed as a representative cotton production area of Aichi Prefecture alongside Chita momen, workshops around Okazaki and Toyota continue to pass down traditional techniques today.
