About Yuki Tsumugi Silk
Yuki Tsumugi is silk fabric produced in Yuki City, Ibaraki, and Tochigi City, Tochigi. With 1,300 years of history from the Nara period, it was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2010. Only fabric that undergoes all three traditional processes—hand-spinning silk wadding, kasuri binding for patterns, and weaving on an izaribata (floor loom)—can be called 'Hon-Yuki.' It becomes softer and more comfortable with wear.
