About Oshima Tsumugi
Oshima Tsumugi is silk fabric originating from the Amami Islands, Kagoshima Prefecture. Said to have begun around the Nara period, it is characterized by 'mud dyeing' using techi tree (syagrus romanzoffiana) dye solution and mud fields, combined with warp and weft kasuri technique. Each bolt takes months to over a year to produce. Soft, light, and with a distinctive luster, 'Honba Oshima Tsumugi' comes in three varieties from different areas with certificates of origin.
